Well Woman Voice Notes
Well Woman Notes is a living archive of audio reflections and written insights exploring women’s health through the lens of discernment. These notes are part of my evolving path in functional nursing and integrative care grounded in nervous system steadiness, self-responsibility, and thoughtful inquiry rather than fear or urgency.
An audio reflection on why discernment is a critical skill in women’s health. We explore a simple practice that cuts through the noise in women’s health so you can make grounded, empowered decisions from your inner knowing.
We spend months preparing for birth…
We take classes, read books, interview doulas, craft a birth plan, and imagine how we’ll welcome our baby into the world. But few of us prepare for what happens after birth.
Few of us even know we need to.
Growing up in the Southern Baptist Church in the 80s and 90s, I was surrounded by a good amount of doctrine that encouraged deep shame and judgement around my body.
“The desires of the flesh” were sinful, wrong and bad, of course. Our community didn't openly discourage dancing, but it wasn't exactly encouraged either. Regardless, I got the message - and I didn't like it.
If you’re navigating burnout, fatigue, hormonal shifts, or the emotional aftermath of chronic stress or betrayal, you may be longing for something more than symptom management—a deeper kind of healing. That’s where a Women’s Health Nurse Coach comes in.
As I'm re-launching my women's group coaching space this month, I'm revisiting systems and resources that I created in 2022. It's really true that as we expand and grow, the things that need to fall away, do. But the things that remain that are aligned and true, also do.
When doors close, windows open. We've all heard some version of this phrase at some point. Maybe we believed it, maybe we even experienced it. Or maybe we said bullshit and tucked that pain of disappointment, loss, and doors slamming in our faces down deep in our bones.
When we live in a world filled with fake shit, where we can create whatever images we want, contort our lives to look a certain way, and hide behind the masks of social norms, why bother being honest about anything?
I finally said goodbye to my faithful old Subaru. We bought her in 2015 with the support of my then in-laws. My girls and I named her Suki and she carried us all safely for many miles and many memories.
If you think she's got it all together, think again. If you think she loves kale, sleeps 8 hours every night, meditates daily, eats only organic food, and loves yoga….nope.
Today is World Kindness Day, and what a timely thing as I just spoke last Friday at a Child Advocates of Fort Bend training on the topic of kindness and its relationship to our wellbeing.
And while we could talk all day about the importance of being kind to others (and holy wow, don't we need this now), I'd like to say that an even more essential practice is self-kindness, or self-compassion.
