Cyclical Living and the Moon

Our bodies are made of 60% water. Water is affected by the moon; that's what creates tides. Our bodies are affected by the moon too. In fact, it affects our hormonal cycles in miraculous ways. When women are living away from artificial light, our cycles automatically sync up with the lunar cycles, bleeding at the new moon and ovulating at the full moon. - Kate Northrup, Do Less

This weekend we have a full moon on Halloween!

Why am I writing about this?

Honestly, because tracking the moon cycle and my own body's cycles has been so helpful in learning to give myself permission to rest, managing my energy, and creating a sense of genuine wellbeing.

Each month, our bodies go through a process of fertilization and shedding. Sometimes we're not physically cycling for various reasons (pregnancy, postpartum, menopause, other health reasons), yet we can still live cyclically through tracking the cycle of the moon.

There are four phases to the moon's cycle, and four phases to our own feminine cycle. And these four phases actually mirror each other. Isn't that fascinating?! Like, why hasn't anyone told us this before??

The energy of the full moon is synonymous with the Ovulation phase. The days on and around the full moon are a prime time to be visible, to communicate your needs to those around you, and to be social and connect.

So, let's get curious. What are you noticing today and the days around the full moon? What do you notice in your own body and energy? What do you notice in your kids? If the energy seems a little wild, you're not crazy! There's a reason nurses usually know when the full moon is ;)

Here's a quick visual guide to get to know the cycles and how they can synch up. Download it here.
